Nasipit, Agusan del Norte – A major Japanese cold chain systems company has offered to help the Mindanao Development Authority in crafting the Mindanao Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MinFAD) Program.
MinFAD involves the establishment of Cold Chain and Storage Facilities in 22 fishing grounds all over Mindanao.
It is one of the projects which is eyed for inclusion in the Mindanao Rise Program funded by the European Union Grant managed by MinDA.
Osamu Ikeda, President of Sanden Philippines, and his key officers, Larry Cruz and Almar Maruggay, yesterday visited the fish cage area of Nasipit with officials of MinDA.
Nasipit Mayor Enrico Corvera welcomed the team to the area along with fishermen and women who produce bottled Spanish Sardines.
Sanden’s technical assistance which is being provided for free will included the establishment of a digital platform which will connect all the 22 Fish Centers, from Surigao to Tawitawi.
A study on the appropriate cold chain facilities will also be conducted by Sanden by using a GPS tracked IT Chip in selected fish samples to determine changes in the fish temperature as it is hauled from the fishing ground to the market.
The establishment of Cold Chain and Storage facilities in the different production areas of Mindanao is one of the major advocacies of MinDA to boost the region’s productivity and reduce poverty.
