The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has asked the Negros Occidental Provincial Government to share its technology on plastics wastes utilization and rice-sugarcane farming technology with its southern neighbor, Mindanao.
In return, MinDA offers technical support for the province’s cattle and sheep development program, high value crops production and access to coconut processing facility which will soon operate in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental.
These were among the topics I discussed with Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson during a visit in his office in Bacolod City facilitated by Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino yesterday, March 22.
After the 2-day planning workshop for the three Olutanga Island towns on Saturday, I crossed the channel which separates Mindanao mainland and Negros Island along with Mindanao outstanding inventor Engr. Rudy Cane of Butuan City.
Our main purpose was to continue our engagement with Magsaysay Award winner Auke Idzenga on Lemongrass Production and Processing and to visit the pilot areas of the Rice-Sugarcane multi-cropping experiment of the Negros Provincial Agriculture Office.
It was during the visit at the fabrication facility of the AIDFI where Auke showed us several locally-fabricated machines which processes plastics, specifically, Coca Cola plastic caps and bottles into usable materials.
I immediately realized the great impact of this environment-friendly innovation on the growing communities of Mindanao where the use of plastics is massive and the disposal problematic.
Gov. Lacson eagerly accepted my offer of a technical cooperation between Negros Occidental and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
Within the week, MinDA will transmit to the Office of the Governor the proposed Memorandum on Technical Cooperation between MinDA and the Negros Occidental Provincial Government, a copy of which is expected to be forwarded to the Provincial Board for confirmation.
