This sounds simplistic, but… PRICE OF 2 MANILA FLYOVERS ENOUGH TO TRANSFORM SULU

There is a joke which I often share whenever I emphasize the inequitable sharing of our country’s resources and it is about a probinsyano who was shocked at seeing the mammoth concrete flyovers in Metro Manila.
“Kuyawa sa Manila diay, no? Kadaghang tulay, apan walay suba. Sa amo kadaghang suba, walay tulay,” said the probinsyano in that story.
(Manila is really amazing, huh? There are so many bridges but there are no rivers. In our place, there are so many rivers but there are no bridges.)
Today, as I pored over the comments on a recent post I made about Sulu, I saw a message from an ordinary follower of this page.
Netizen Ferdinand Bidua said: “It will only take government an expense equivalent to one flyover in Metro Manila” to change the lives of people in Sulu.
He is absolutely right and I hope our economic and development planners would look beyond the smog-filled horizon of Metro Manila to realize what “little things or expense” could do to change the lives of the people in the countryside.
The justification that the Central Government does not want to spend money anymore in the troubled areas because it will just be corrupted by the local leaders is “rubbish.”
If that is the line of reasoning, then government should defund all agencies of government with persistent reports of corruption among its officials.
This is not the time to look back and tag who is to be blamed.
We have to look forward and do the right thing now.
President Rody Duterte only has two more years left in his Presidency.
There is still enough time to change things in Sulu, that is if we are willing to sacrifice two spans of Flyovers in Metro Manila in favor of peace and stability in the remaining troubled area of the country.
