To welcome 2021! Silage-Making Farm Demo Set Jan. 4-5 in Agusan, MisOr

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) starts the New Year with a two-day farm demonstration on silage making using Sorghum stalks on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 4 and 5.
The activity coincides with the harvest of Sorghum in the demo farms established in Agusan del Sur and Naawan, Misamis Oriental.
Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago Cane and Misamis Oriental Governor Bambi Emano, along with local officials and farmers are expected to join the ceremonial Sorghum harvest and silage-making demonstration.
MinDA Consultant and silage-making instructor Arnel Corpuz will demonstrate how silage from Sorghum stalks is prepared and preserved for up to one year.
The silage from Sorghum leaves and stalks of newly-harvested Sorghum is ideal for cattle, carabaos and goats.
It could be boosted with micro-minerals to make it more nutritious.
Sorghum stalks are usually just left to rot in the fields or burned.
Arnel Corpuz, who worked in Wagyu feedlots in Australia, will demonstrate how the stalks are processed and preserved.
Sorghum is being promoted by MinDA to small farmers as a back up feed material to corn as part of the backyard poultry and livestock program in Mindanao.
Those who are interested to learn how to make silage could wait for a Facebook live feed in this page.
