A week after my visit to the organic farm of tribal farmers in Miarayon, Talakag, Bukidnon, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) is now starting to receive encouraging feedbacks from prospective buyers.
One group needs about 10 metric tons of assorted organically-grown vegetables every week which would be quite a volume.
To prepare for this, the planting and logistical requirements should be addressed.
The area is ready, the technology had been transferred during the MinDA Vegetable Derby while the Department of Agriculture is now constructing a P14-M cold storage facility in Miarayon.
Today, I called up an old friend and former townmate, Roberto “Jun” Alba, who owns a huge trucking fleet and asked him if he could invest in a reefer truck.
Alba, whose trucks under Alba Trucking haul goods from Luzon to Mindanao and back said he will purchase the needed reefer vans for the project.
So, it is almost done and hopefully, the marketing of organic vegetables from Mindanao will start three months from now.
