After American logging companies, like Insular Lumber in Negros Island and many others in Mindanao, stripped bare our forests of Philippine hardwood which were shipped back to the US, we now find ourselves buying lumber from them.
This is the most cruel joke ever inflicted on us Filipinos and what makes this all the more painful is that the rape of our natural resources enriched just a few families.
Wala na tayong magagawa at tapos na yan.
Let’s put that behind us and just learn lessons so that this abuse of our resources would not happen again.
Magtanim ulit tayo ng kahoy at kawayan to fill the needs of our country’s construction industry and also to protect our environment.
If by God’s grace He will lead me to the halls of the Senate next year, I will ask experts to help me craft a legislation that would give huge incentives to those who venture into tree farming and bamboo propagation.
Part of that initiative would be support to local industries which would process the wood products and bamboos into materials needed in our homes and the construction industry.
