The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Search for the Best Energy Powerbar using Mindanao-produced Organic Black, Brown and Red Rice will be known today as some 30 “Taste Testers” will submit their review of the samples given to them over the weekend.
Three participating entries submitted seven different samples which were then divided into 30 small slices each and distributed to the samplers for the “Taste Test.”
A fourth participant did not qualify in the competition because actual samples were not sent. Instead, the participant sent photos of the Energy PowerBar.
MinDA Search for Best Energy Powerbar coordinators Sylvester “Bom” Sales and Joyce Tupas reported that the “Taste Testers” included young people, working people, athletes and food connoiseurs.
The competition is aimed at creating a niche market for Mindanao’s Organic Black, Brown and Red Rice to support the region’s rice farmers.
It also aims to start a new industry which would provide better earnings and jobs for people of Mindanao.
The promotion of Mindanao’s Organic Black, Brown and Red Rice is part of MinDA’s advocacy to support Organic Rice Farming which started with the organization in 2019 of the Mindanao Organic Rice Council.
The winners of today’s competition will be assisted by MinDA in accessing funds, either through grants given by MinDA donor partners or through low-interest loans to be provided by its banking partner, the Development Bank of the Philippines.
