Two ultra-light planes, both owned by my friend multi-millionaire Col. Samuel Afdal, will be featured in the airshow which will be one of the major activities of the “Tulabong Festival” in M’lang on Feb. 16.
Col. Afdal, a retired officer who traces his family roots to Pikit and Kabacan, allowed the use of two of his three ultra-light planes, to support the “Tulabong Festival” which celebrates the continuation of the work in the North Cotabato Airport in Barangay Tawantawan, M’lang.
Col. Afdal also owns four more helicopters which he keeps in his private hangar in Sasa, Davao City.
The two ultra-light planes will be handled by veteran pilots Capt. Rey Acosta, husband of former Davao City councilor Mabelle Sunga-Acosta, and Australian Sam Mente.
The aircrafts will fly in from Davao City airport to M’lang on Feb. 15, one day before the festival.
Capt. Acosta said he will be bringing along several aircraft maintenance mechanics including a young mechanic from Tulunan, North Cotabato, Allen Porras Tagaro.
Invitations to attend the festival will be extended to Col. Afdal, Davao City incoming Mayor Rody Duterte and Filipino boxing icon Cong. Manny Pacquiao, who himself owns a helicopter.
The two ultra-light planes are expected to delight the young high school and elementary students who will be witnessing the first airshow in the town of M’lang.
During the airshow, a raffle will be conducted to pick the lucky 10 adult spectators who will be given the privilege of riding in the ultra-light planes and flying over the town of M’lang.
The “Tulabong Festival” will also feature a “habal-habal,” tricycle and stock motorcycle drag race using the 1.2-km. runway of the airport.
The festivities will start at 7 a.m.
