Yesterday, at the Apo Golf and Country Club in Dumoy, Davao City, I joined friends in a round of golf to support a tournament sponsored by the Philippine National Red Cross.
My game was forgettable and I ended up paying everybody in a friendly bet which proved to be very costly afterwards but I was happy just the same still being able to play the game I enjoy the most.
At my age and with my deep involvement in the farm which prevents me from spending more time to practice, my golf game is no longer like it was many years ago when I participated in the PAL Interclub Tournaments held in the different parts of the country every year as member of the Davao City Golf Club team.
In spite of the apparent deterioration in my game level, I still enjoy the long walk in the fairways which could measure up to 7 kilometers for the whole 18-holes.
This is the joy of golf. You enjoy the greenery around you and the fresh air in the course.
As I go through the routine of preparing for a shot, I erase all other thoughts in my mind, the worries and the pain and focus only on one thing – to get that small ball flying into the air towards the hole.
I hope to still be able to hit the ball and walk the course up to the day my Creator would call me back to His place.
