American boxing writers, including the sports commentators of Showtime, described Floyd Mayweather’s performance in his rematch with Argentinian Marcus Maidana as dominating.
If you listened to the commentaries and read the news reports, without actually seeing the video of the fight, it would appear that Mayweather had easy sailing all throughout the fight.
As a veteran boxing man, who covered boxing events both for print and TV, I will concede that indeed Maidana lost the rematch.
But it was not one-sided or a rout as American sportswriters and TV commentators would like to make it appear.
In the fight, Maidana almost altered the outcome of the fight with a crunching right which caught Mayweather flush in the face in the dying seconds of the third round.
Had there been about 30 seconds more in the round after that punch, I would surmise that Maidana could have sent Mayweather to dreamland.
Here is a youtube.com video of that punch which showed what appeared to be a tooth flying out of Mayweather’s mouth.
Maidana lost that fight alright but it was a scary one for Mayweather.
Once again, it was shown that Mayweather could be hurt by big punchers like Maidana and Manny Pacquiao.
And in spite of all of his ridiculous demands and conditions to fight Pacquiao, it is the Filipino boxing icon’s raw power that scares Mayweather most.
The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will never happen.
