Young boxer Carlo Paalam won over the 2016 Olympic Gold Medallist today to give the country its historic 4 Olympic medals.
Paalam, a product of the grassroots boxing program of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno, assured himself of a Bronze Medal with the win.
He is the fourth Filipino athlete from Mindanao to win an Olympic medal.
Earlier, Hidilyn Diaz of Zamboanga City snatched the country’s first Olympic Gold in weightlifting.
This was followed by the semi-finals win of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur boxer Nesthy Petecio in women’s boxing assuring her of a Silver and the 1st round KO win of Zamboanga boxer Eumir Marcial which assured him of a Bronze medal.
