In Roxas, Isabela! Grassroots Boxing Program Starts With Pro Card Tonight

Roxas, Isabela -A professional boxing event featuring five boxing prospects from Cotabato Province who will see action against Baguio City based opponents will be staged in Roxas, Isabela tonight, Aug. 26.
This will be the first ever professional boxing event in Roxas and in the whole province of Isabela which would mark the launching of a grassroots boxing program sponsored by Roxas Mayor Dr.Totep Calderon.
The boxing event is expected to draw hundreds of local residents, including the youth who are expected to be drawn to boxing.
“Maraming mahihilig sa boxing dito kaya lang wala kami makuhang trainer to develop the local talents,” said former Mayor Benedict Calderon, Mayor Totep’s older brother.
After this event, Mayor Totep will start an inter-barangay boxing tournament to select the town’s bets in the upcoming regional boxing competitions.
Leading the contingent from Cotabato is Mark Andrew Antonio, 24, who will fight for the PBF Junior Bantamweight title against veteran Mateo Handig of Baguio City.
Former amateur boxing standouts Clyde Manso (2Wins-0 Loss-2KOs), Justin Vicente (1W-0L-1KO), Roger Ocum (1W-0L-1KO) and Rey John Paul Apale (first pro fight) will also see action.
Event organizer businessman Vic Calderon said the event is supported by Isabela Vice Governor and fomer Governor Bojie Dy III, Mayor Totep Calderon and former Pangasinan Cong. Eric Acuña’s AMO Foliar Fertilizer.
The boxing event starts at 6 p.m. and will be shown on Facebook Live.
