Manila – North Cotabato’s first world boxing champion, Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong, fast becoming a media darling because of his humble and unassuming demeanor, will be the guest of GMA NEW TV Channel 11 morning program “Kape’t Balita” today, June 21.
The 27-year-old farmer’s son from Barangay Pag-asa, M’lang, North Cotabato will be featured while practicing at the Elorde Gym in Don Antonio Village, Quezon City at 6:30 a.m.
Show anchors Susan Enriquez and Mariz Umali will interview the new boxing champion during the program and will ask Edrin to demonstrate his boxing techniques with the help of boxing coaches Rex Penalosa and Gilbert Angcog.
Dapudong ended the losing streak of Filipino boxers by winning last Saturday, June 15, the International Boxing Organization (IBO) Jr. Bantamweight title with a sensational first round knockout of South African champion Gideon Buthelezi in Johannesburg.
He thus became the first world boxing champion from North Cotabato and the first Filipino fighter to win in South Africa in recent years.
During today’s show, video clips of Dapudong’s previous fights will also be shown.
