I was deeply amazed at the reaction of our followers over the simple story about the lowly Marang, an exotic fruit found in the Southern Philippines, especially in provinces near the equatorial line.
The only problem with Marang is it is highly perishable.
The moment it ripens, there is no way it can be transported because it will be spoiled right away.
This was the problem we had when we were holding the annual Fruit Festival in SM Megamall during the years that I was Governor of North Cotabato.
So, in response to the queries of many of our followers abroad, including Kuwait, on whether Marang could be exported, the answer is No.
Unless, it is processed into jam or tart or even yoghurt form, there is simply no way Marang could be exported.
But the expected completion of the Central Mindanao Airport next year in M’lang town, the Marang could finally make the short flight to Metro Manila and Cebu.
So, to Marang lovers outside of the Philippines now, Sorry but you really have to come home to Mindanao to get a taste of this exotic fruit.
In the meantime, just imagine, salivate and even drool.
Marang will just be part of your dream.
