We have started propagating the Breadfruit (sn: Artocarpus altilis), known locally as “Kolo” or “Rimas” using two methods – grafting and root growing.
This is our first attempt to employ these asexual propagation methods which had been proven to be successful by other Breadfruit growers.
Breadfruit, considered as a Super Food which could help ensure Food Security, is a tropical tree which belongs to the same family as Camansi (Artocarpus caimans) and Tipolo (Artocarpus blanch).
However, the Breadfruit is seedless thus making propagation difficult.
We hope that with the availability of these options now to propagate the Breadfruit, our nursery will be a able to produce planting materials which we could later share with other farmers.
