Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao and a huge group of businessmen and agriculture stakeholders made a surprise visit to my farm yesterday to inquire on my agricultural projects which could be replicated in the province.
Governor Cadiao whom I befriended when she was still Vice Governor of Antique, and her delegation are in North Cotabato for the groundbreaking yesterday of a hotel and resort in Kidapawan City acquired by Antiqueño businessman Lester Mark Yee.
Gov. Cadiao asked about the growing of Sorghum and Soybeans in Antique, two crops which I am promoting and planting in North Cotabato.
Given the proximity of the province to Boracay, one of the world’s top tourist destinations, I also advised Governor Cadiao to consider the introduction of high value crops like “Buko Pandan,” EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit, Mangosteen and others, including Giant Bamboo, for the huge tourist market.
Gov. Cadiao asked me to visit Antique to share with agriculture and aquaculture stakeholders my insights on how to further develop the province’s food production potentials.
Antique is one of the richest fishing grounds in the Eastern Seaboard of Panay Island and had long achieved Rice Self-Sufficiency.
Antique and North Cotabato forged a Sisterhood Agreement which I signed as Governor of North Cotabato with then Governor Sally Zaldivar Perez.
North Cotabato has a huge population of Antiqueño settlers, especially in the towns of Pigcawayan, Banisilan, Alamada, Matalam, Mlang, Tulunan, President Roxas, Magpet and Arakan.
